It's A Choice

It’s a choice
So drug test those on welfare
Yet those who serve you food are met with a cold stare
Give me my big mac and how could you ever work there?
Let’s judge those putting in 40 hours a day
Left better off selling drugs and letting the mac spray
I’ll take an extra large fries with that
It’s fuck the government when a soldier dies like that
And how could Trudeau not show at ground zero?
He should be like me
A behind the computer screen hero
Let me take a breath for a sec
A young Iranian woman was stoned to death
A result of the petition I signed at starbucks
But I give “zero fucks” cause its “lit fam”
Ignorance bred through those barely associated with the essence of hip hop
I’m talking about hipsters hanging in the exchange drinking PBR’s
The whole world’s against them as they watch bullshit on their PVR’s
Those stuck serving time in the Remand with no resources
Besides some picket and shout when they’re offered college courses
No way out. No open ears for remorses.
People claim to hate crime but do nothing to change the social conditions that create it
Orange is the new black let’s five star rate it
Drug test those on welfare
Sir, here’s the cup, whip your dick out and piss in their
It’s a choice so I don’t care
We got luxury lives, can you pay the fare?
It’s a choice it don’t need to be fair
White and wealthy life I’ll see y’all out there
It’s a choice

-X

We used to talk for hours
So I feel I owe you more than the occasional drunk dial
If I pass you in the street will I shove my hands in my back pockets?
Force a smile and talk awhile?
Society has a funny way of telling me how to deal with an ex lover
Join the faceless masses in the move to shove her
From my memory
But the air fills with the words unsaid
All I can say is there's a difference between them
And I really can't tell
Perhaps it's how high you went
And how hard you fell

You're crying
Why are you crying?
You ended it with me
This is your freedom and my cage
Roll one up to contain the rage
I stare at the stars in the sky
Counted every single one
Must've lost myself in count
Until the moon waved hello the sun
It brought a warmth of optimism to my face
As a child I squirmed and cried with imaginary aches
A new day, my father would say
Tomorrows a new day
A new day, my father would say
Tomorrows a new day.

Snowed In

In darkness fingers intertwine
In candlelight we wine and dine
I hold my hand out and grab the sky
Just to remind you of the sunset
They told me to watch out
She’s a gamble, she’ll hurt you yet
I considered my odd fate and placed my bet
Flea market. We tried on funny hats
I think you should collect all your artwork and rent a booth
And that’s the honest truth
Curves always look better in the candlelight
My hand shakes as I try to light
Never this nervous but
Never had beauty like this
The snow pounds against the window
Blizzard of the century they say
Guess I’ll spend the night, you say
And I can’t help but thank mother-nature for feeling this way

The Dream Series

The Dream Series is a set of poetry that created itself. I had no intention of writing about dreams but found my poetry flowing organically towards it. Not all my poetry is dream-like. But I have a fascination with writing in that perspective. When I had written this I realized I had a few other poems that centered around myself dreaming. I don't often embark on writing "projects" if you will. But the idea does excite me and may turn itself into something I can actually hand over to a publisher. Dreams hold a special significance in my life. I often attempt to memorize and write them down as soon as possible. And certain dreams will play on my mind for weeks and months.

Let the past pass you
Dreamlike down a hidden river on a hot day
The serenity abruptly woken by the view of myself drowning
I now understand two parts of myself from a new perspective
As I attempted to remain unconscious all the while aware of two worlds colliding
Delicately approaching a choking sputtering image of myself
I hold out my hand praying I don’t wake up.
I saw in myself strange eyes
But not for the first time
The had been moments when I stumbled to the mirror
In the dead of night I saw them change
The cold water hitting my face
I turned away once, not now, not ever again. I swear…
A swell in the waves when I almost had myself in a metaphysical grasp
For a moment I lost myself
The salt peppered my mouth and old wounds
The old me with a silly smile on his face
Enjoying the destruction of my past
Rolling in the flame-like waves
I felt the grip tighten and realized
He was attempting to pull me in as well
I won’t go back to that
However,
In order to truly change I had to watch myself die once
I had to let go…
